Look For A New Pint Glass In The Your Local Pub

Pub as well as club all across the country could be seeing a new glass measure hit their shelves. Say bonjour to the 'Schooner' glass. The basic premise is that the glass is slightly smaller than a normal pint glass by only holding two thirds of a pint. The recent development is a result of pub landlords that want to sell stronger beers and ciders in smaller measures. This now also allows females who don't want a whole pint to now have a smaller measure.

Schooner the name comes from Australia and was created for when the glass for a pint becomes too hot when out in sun. I dont quite see how it applies in colder countries however pub landlords are still taking it seriously. Traditionalists are concerned that if may start a shift away from the pint. At the moment pubs are allowed to sell drinks in a pint, half pint and a third of a pint. The smaller glass will no doubt cause a huge amount of confusion for any pub's glassware and the glass does nearly look identical to a pint glass so this will definitely cause confusion. However, many people are in favour of getting this new pint glass as the idea to drink less is always a preferred incentive. It is the same with wine glasses. In many pubs they will only sell a much larger size wine glasses in the bar and in their dinnerware.

The Scottish Drinking Association does agree with this stating that it thinks there is no demand for the glass. Science and Innovation Minister Lord Drayson said: 'There is no question of replacing the British pint, but introducing the option of a brand new imperial measure is good for consumers and providing them with far more choice.
