Anatomy of Two Book Stand Designs that Work Well

A book stand is a valuable accessory for any true book lover. Currently offered models range from simple wire devices such as the Fold'N'Stow that supports a book at variable angles on virtually any flat surface, to the infinitely more elaborate LEVO Bookholder that secures your book or other reading material in either a floor standing design or a clamp-on design that securely fastens to just about any table, desk, or counter top. Many book stand designs work best with hardcovers, but most also can work quite nicely with paperbacks held by book holders like an OpenPage.

The Fold'N'Stow is one of the most affordable of book stands. It folds compactly and is sold with it's own plastic pouch designed for easy placement in a 3 ring binder. It can be placed on a counter top for recipe books, or atop a desk, table, workstation, bench, etc. Wire arms with page keepers extend out from the back plane to hold the covers and open pages of your book, and, by adjusting how far apart the arms are, smaller and larger books may be readily accommodated. The back of the stand also has horizontal pieces that can be raised or lowered to adjust the angle at which the book is held relative to the surface upon which it is resting.

The LEVO's most popular book stand is the LEVO floor standing model, which features a weighted base on casters for ease of movement from bedside to treadmill to the couch, desk, table or counter top. Wherever you choose to put it, the LEVO can support in just about any position you can imagine. Incorporating a bookboard which can be adjusted into virtually any position, and combined with a book mounting system that will securely hold your book or other reading material, even upside down, the LEVO makes reading truly hands-free from just about any position.

The LEVO Desk model is just as convenient as its floor standing sibling, but features a clamp that firmly holds any countertop, workbench, desk, table or other flat surface up to two inches thick, and offers the same movements as the floor model, without the degree of vertical telescoping movements. By supporting your book or other reading materials above the surface to which it is secured, the desk design saves the weight and expense of the weighted rolling base while conserving valuable work space, since neither your book nor your book holder rest on the surface.

Even though there are other book stand designs currently available, the Fold'N'Stow and LEVO book stands have stood the test of time and stand up well to long term use.
